Paul Chappell, Associate Fishery Biologist, retired from the California Department of Fish & Game in August of 2005. His career spanned over 30 years of practicing fisheries management throughout California. For the last 18 years he has provided the
management direction that has continued to make Eagle Lake the finest trophy trout fishery in California. His unique insights into the biology of Eagle Lake and his ardent fishing enthusiasm for Eagle Lake rainbow trout make him ideally suited to providing you with a quality angling and unique educational experience.
Paul guides exclusively at Eagle Lake and has made this fishery his area of professional expertise. Snowbear Guide Service specializes in troll fishing using the latest ultra light tackle from Shakespeare and Pflueger to allow you to “feel the fight” of the world class, tail walking, deep sounding, reel singing, rod bending, internationally famous Eagle Lake rainbow trout.
Paul will provide all of the tackle, and safety equipment for your angling pleasure and a memorable experience. You will be fishing aboard an “unsinkable legend” 18-foot center console Boston Whaler Outrage. Commercial grade electronics (Raytheon sounder/fish finder, Furuno radar, Lowrance GPS/chart plotter, Icom VHF radio, etc.) will enable us to find the elusive Eagle Lake rainbow trout in all weather conditions and be in communications with others anywhere on the lake. Cannon electric downriggers and Sep’s side planer boards will effectively present our offerings to these “monsters of the deep”.
Your guided trip will present you with the opportunity to learn about the restoration of the Eagle Lake rainbow trout fishery, historic perspectives and the aquatic biology of the Eagle Lake. More importantly, you will learn how you can become a better angler at Eagle Lake by learning how to “think like a fish”. This is your chance to learn everything that you have always wanted to know about the Eagle Lake rainbow trout fishery from the only retired Department of Fish & Game fishery biologist guiding at Eagle Lake.
So, what's up with this "Snowbear" stuff anyhow?

Paul's "Shasta Snowbear" was a Great Pyrenees livestock guardian dog that was his constant companion and best friend for over 14 years. It is to his memory that the "SnowBear Guide Service" has been dedicated.
